What Makes A Good Model
Over the years, the stereotype that models are just a pretty face has been debunked. We now recognize that models are people too, no matter how famous or beautiful. But what does it really take to be a good model? It depends on your definition of success. Everyone has different goals when it comes to pursuing modeling, but we all share a set of skills that can only be learned through experience and time.
Of course, professionalism is a must if you want to build up a good reputation and be taken seriously by others. Professionalism is not just about arriving on time and being polite, but also about how you carry yourself. Sometimes, people forget that this is a job. Like any other job, you want to put your best face forward to make meaningful connections.
Communication ties into professionalism but it’s so important to communicate before, during, and after meetings and photoshoots. Set expectations before the shoot, and maintain open communication during the shoot so that everyone feels good about the work. Showing that you are willing to take the extra time to plan and discuss the photoshoot shows that you are taking the work seriously and that you care about the outcome. This also prepares you for the shoot itself, so you’re not just walking in with no clear plan or idea of how you will go about the shoot.
Posing is what takes time and practice. The more you work, the more you are able to understand what angles and faces work best for you. Trying a few new poses during a photoshoot will help you perfect those movements and expand your range. Models are multifaceted and we are able to morph into different people depending on the vibe of the photoshoot. We are like actors who only have a few frames to portray a whole story. You know what they say- a picture is worth a thousand words.
